Spectacularly situated beneath the majestic Matterhorn, Zermatt has everything to offer in the way of fantastic skiing, picturesque surroundings and a lively nightlife. On arrival by train from the village of Tasch, you will find the vibrant village centre entirely car free and with only electric taxis and horse drawn sleighs and streets packed with beautiful shops and boutiques. Zermatt's three ski areas all soar to at least 3100m (10,200ft) and boasts the highest ski lift in Europe - The Klein Matterhorn (Gobba di Rollin) at 3 820m. The ski run from this station into Zermatt is almost 14 km long and has a vertical drop of 2 200m! Zermatt is connected to the ski area of Breuil-Cervinia in Italy.

Lively nightlife with an excellent range of bars and clubs. Recommendations for après ski are the Hennu Stall on the piste and then the Papperla pub in town. Later on, head to the Vernissage for a cocktail or two, or to any of the bars underneath the Hotel Post. The Loft Lounge has a more relaxed vibe to it, but Broken Bar is great for music and dancing. The Schneewitchen under the Papperla Pub is also a brilliant place to end the night!
The town is well known for its vast array of fabulous restaurants with over 90 in the town to choose from. Along with Swiss specialities, there are restaurants offering cuisine from all over the world. The Mont Cervin Palace hotel is home to one of Zermatt’s Michelin star restaurants, but there are plenty of other places to suit all budgets.

There are a number of ski schools in Zermatt with most of them taking children from the age of four. Stoked also has a crèche to look after children from the age of two and a half. For younger children, Kinderparadies is the main nursery in the town centre located by the train station.
