Geilo is centrally located in South Norway, 800 metres above sea level, half way between Oslo and Bergen.
Geilo belongs to the municipality of Hol, the highest lying municipality in Hallingdal. With the Hallingskarvet mountain as its backbone and Hardangervidda, North Europe’s largest mountain plateau as its nearest neighbour, the municipality of Hol is a typical mountain municipality; 91 % of it is more than 900 metres above sea level.
Geilo is the largest village in Hallingdal and is the municipality’s tourist eldorado.
It is probably a slight exaggeration to say that all roads lead to Geilo, but it is extremely easy to get there!
