Courmayeur lies close to the Italian border at the foot of Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest mountain, in the Aosta Valley. It is a characteristic Italian village of cobbled streets, stylish shops and excellent cafés and bistros, all set within an attractive medieval centre. The main skiing area is at Plan Checrouit and, with over 80% of the skiable terrain covered by snow cannons, snow here is virtually guaranteed. The scenery from the slopes is stunning.
Apres Ski in Courmayeur is both stylish and lively in the typical Italian way! The Roma Bar for example, is attractively spacious with comfy sofas to lounge into after a hard day on the slopes. Other favourites are the Bar delle Guide and the Cafe della Poste. If it is the English pub scene you require try the Red Lion. Couymayeur even boasts two night-clubs.
In true Italian style, there is great choice - the Maison de Filippo in Entreves is famous for its fixed price 30-odd dish menu; The Terrazza for its pasta and the Mont-Frety are highly recommended. Other suggestions are the Pierre Alexis and Cadran Solaire.
There are some pleasant kms of walking trails near Courmayeur or try a tandam paragliding flight, dog-sledding or snow biking. Near town (3km away) is a swimming pool and sauna, an Alpine museum, a cinema and a sports centre (climbing, tennis, fitness, sauna etc).
The recommended Kinderheim at Plan Checrouit takes children from the age of 6 months, 9.30am to 4pm. Lessons can be arranged with children aged 4 years +, being left at the ski school in town at 8am.
