Zell am See (part of the Europa Ski Region) is a small town with a good range of amenities for the non-skier. 'Zell's' slopes have a lot of variety and challenging terrain, but not really enough to keep a keen intermediate or expert happy for long - only 75 km/47 miles of pistes, if you ignore Kaprun's Kitzsteinhorn glacier.
The Kitzsteinhorn glacier (down the valley past Kaprun), has a great range of runs, particularly for the intermediate and beginner skier. Snowboarders have a good range of terrain on offer and the half-pipe on the Kitzsteinhorn is worth a visit.

Zell am See has a many small shops, cafes and restaurants. There are a range of other activities on offer - in the winter the lake freezes over and is used for ice-skating and curling.
